Sponge cakes

I need to make chocolate sponge tiered cakes. Would my cake collapse because it’s soft? It’s a 6 inch and 9 inch tiered cake. I have always made tiered cakes with mudcakes so that’s why I’m worried.

Hi. As long as your support system in the bottom cake is sound ie dowels or sturdy straws all cut to the same length and the top tier is on a board that rests level on the dowels or straws, you should be fine. I only ever make sponge cakes and there have been no problems. Good luck! :-)

Oh wow!! That’s so good to hear. I’m a bit relieved now. Thanx so much.

I have just done a 9" and a 7" tiered cake in a soft sour cream sponge and used cake pop sticks for supports. It worked really well :)

As long as it has supporting cake dowels in it, you’ll be fine :)
