M and M, Gravity Defying, Cake

Looking for some advice on creating an M&M gravity defying cake. What do others use for the packet? I am considering using an actual packet and securing it with wire inside. Or is it better to print off picture of packet on to fondant? All help gratefully received.

For the packet you can do a real cake covered in fondant and print the packet content on rice paper and them cover the cake with it!! It should give a nice effect ;)

Hi Tinastreats,
I did an M&M Gravity defying cake for my dad’s birthday this year (he’s a huge m&m lover.) I used the actual packet for a few reasons, #1 copyright issues. Since I bought and used their actual packet, I wasn’t recreating their likeness, otherwise you would need to get written permission #2 it was extremely lightweight and made transport so much easier! Good luck with your cake! Have fun – if you want to see a pic of the one I did, it’s in my cake pictures.

I’ve been saved, I’ve been changed, I have been set free! www.facebook.com/sbcakedesign

I’ve done several, & I TOTALLY agree with SB Cake Design—-using the packet avoids any copyright issues & also saves you a lot of time & work. I stuff it with cotton balls & they help hold the dowel in place inside the packet. Wrap the dowel with a thin layer of fondant first & it will be much easier to glue the M&Ms on. I learned the hard way—-use Wilton candy melts for glue & let them cool a bit. You have to hold the M&M until it sets, & the melts set WAAAAYYY faster than actual chocolate. Plus you can match the color to your cake.

This is fantastic advice. Especially cotton balls and I never thought about copyright although I’ve heard so much about it recently. Thanks everyone and I love the cakes they’re just great I will have to post mine when I’ve done it especially if it turns out anywhere near as good as yours!
