Do you use a medium consistency or stiff consistency buttercream to crumb coat?

I just use my usual recipe that I also use for icing the cake later. HTH!

I use a medium consistency. That is also what I use to ice the cake. However, most of the time I use the Wilton icer tip and do not do a crumb coat.
