Cocoa powder

Hi I’ve been doing a lot of research about cake baking and the science behind it. Just recently I discovered that when a recipe calls for cocoa powder it should be unsweetened cocoa powder- I actually didn’t know there was drinking cocoa and baking cocoa lol
So in my recipes I’ve been using drinking cocoa powder, and they have turned out really nice. So my question is do you guys always use unsweetened cocoa or use the drinking stuff aswell?

Personally prefer the unsweetned cocoa powder, it imparts the rich full chocolate flavour.

Thankyou for the reply, I find the general consensus is that everybody prefers unsweetened
cocoa powder :-)

I always use unsweetened . I find that when I make chocolate buttercream I prefer to use unsweetened cocoa powder (mixed to a paste with some water) as it takes away the sweetness of the buttercream. Yummy. ;)

Oh thank you for that tip!! I will have to try that :-)

It makes it very ‘chocolatey’. Just mix the cocoa powder with some water to make a thick paste then add as required to the mixed butter buttercream. Voila! I do use melted chocolate sometimes but that adds extra sweetness & calories! ;) Happy baking. :) x

Thankyou so much, I’ve tried making chocolate buttercream in the past and it didn’t taste very good lol like you said it wasn’t very chocolatey!! I’m happy I have a new recipe thanks again xx
