I really love the technique of quilling with sugarpaste. The cross is made from florist paste mixed with sugarpaste 2:1. It was standing about 12cm tall and my customer plans to mount it in a box frame as a special memory of her son’s 1st Holy Communion.

This cake was hugely inspired by the work of Erin from Three Little Blackbirds (TLB Cakes). After watching her fabulous free mini class on Craftsy I went about to find a project to do. While researching cherry blossoms, I came across a fantastic handpainted cherry blossom cake by Môn Cottage Cupcakes. When I contacted Nina to rave about her stunning cake, she sent me her handpainted cherry blossom tutorial. Even though I had done my cherry blossoms at this stage, I found many more fabulous tips in it.

The cake was for a 12 year old girl who had a Spa Party for her birthday. Her mum wanted it to be girly, but classy. The quilled snowflakes are made from fondant and Squires florist paste 1:3. The Northpole is all sugarpaste as well except the globe which is made from Isomalt (I made a mould with silly putty from one of my kids marbels) and the wire on the sign. For the knit effect on the board you can find a tutorial link to a Russian website on my facebook page www.facebook.com/Splendor.Cakes.

An homage to the original wedding cake which had 3 iced tiers and a small silver jug filled with real freesias on the top tier. This cake was truely a labour of love and I learned a lot about gumpaste flowers. All flowers were pulled without the use of any cutters. The tutorial for the freesias came from http://?www.duskyroseveiners.co.uk/?page_861446.html
The jug is made from gumpste, too. The edging on the cake is piped with royal icing at stiff peak consistancy.
