Just a Pretty Picture...

When i finally finish a cake, I cannot wait to share it with the world. The only problem is when I take a picture of it, i seem to never do it justice. It always comes out looking homemade to me. I know good lighting can make a cake look its best but what about the background? Whats the best thing to use poster board? fabric? paper? I’ve tried the fabric and found not to like it since its gets wrinkles very easily. One day ill figure out how to take a pretty picture :)

Not hearing back from clients??

It makes me wonder if they were happy with the cake. I never get any complaints on the cake but I hardly ever get any responses back if they loved it or not. I don’t want to write them and ask, i feel like if they did love it they would’ve told me. When i post a picture of the cake i made for them on my webpage , they do like the picture but don’t comment. Maybe im over thinking it, but it makes me worry.

I just finished my goal for tonight on my baby shower birch tree cake…I know most birch tree cakes are for weddings but this client wanted a Camouflage cake and I didn’t want it too look cheesy or for a proper word “Redneck”, so I thought the birch tree would be perfect to keep it classy. In the morning I need to attach all the pine cones, leaves and pine needles. I must say im already in love with it. Everything was hand painted and love love how it came out for my first one! I cant wait to post photos of the finished cake. Happy Decorating All!

Nervous about a cake order....

I got a cake order coming up that im extremely nervous about. Its for a 3 tier cake to feed about 90 people. She told all her guests coming its going to be the best cake they ever had! OMG im freaking out…ive never had a complaint or anything about my cakes but that just puts so much pressure on me and makes me doubt myself. Now i feel like ive been set up for greatness or failure and not knowing what to do if she doesn’t like the cake. :/

Second wedding cake

So excited about my second wedding cake order! I love making wedding cakes even though they are time consuming, I find piping to be a true love for me. For this cake the bride wanted simple ivory buttercream cake, piping, and roses cascading down the side, which i just finished making plus the filler flowers and leaves! I could make flowers all day…I cant wait on my next wedding cake due in January. Hopefully ill get another booking for one before then :) Till then ill count my blessings and throw myself into the baby shower and birthdays coming up.

My first Car cake

Just finished my first car cake and it was a definite time consumer. I enjoyed making it though, the most challenging part of the cake had to be all the detail work. At first i was scared to carve this cake because ive never carved before and i thought of all the horrible things that could happen if i took to much cake off ! I wanted it to look like a model car so I had to keep that in mind. It took me 3 days to complete which is far too long but for my first one i wanted to go slow and see how it would turn out. Im glad I took the risk and made a car cake finally, I feel so much relief in carving now. Cant wait for my next one :)
Tip: I found a drawing of the car and printed it out for the shape that helped me get started.
And i looked at the photo constantly to make sure I had every detail i could possibly have.
