Alice In Classic Wonderland

I am in love with this cake! My client wanted a romantic Victorian style topsy turvy Alice in wonderland cake for her daughter’s first birthday. She sent me her invitation which had classic paintings of the story and a blue argyle pattern background and I was instantly inspired. She also sent me a photo of an Alice in wonderland cake by Alma Pateles which had lace and a gold key and watch and wanted those incorporated into the cake as well. I came up with this design and my client cried when she saw the cake. I cried having to leave it behind – I wish it was a dummy cake so I could keep it forever. Hope you like it and thanks for looking.

I advised her I don’t copy cakes but would use it as inspiration. The top tier came out more ruffly than Luisa’s but I still love it – it was all roses and once I filled in the gaps with some ruffled fondant ribbon, it kind of all blended together so you can’t really see the flowers anymore. I still love it! Hope you like it too.

This cake was a true challenge – all swiss meringue buttercream with a mehndi stencil. I froze each tier for about 10 minutes for each side of the cake prior to stacking them. They were heavy cakes so it was a work out – 12”, 10”, 8”. I mixed piping gel and gold luster dust to achieve the gold. The pictures don’t do the cake justice how gold the stencil turned out – it was gorgeous. I was so nervous delivering this because it was 85 degrees outside and I was sure it would melt or the stencil would slide off – but it was a miracle that it all stayed in tact for the duration of the Indian wedding extravaganza.

My first cake to be chosen and I’m so thrilled and honored to be in such an incredible group of other artists in this magazine. Top tier is 24K gold leaf and a gumpaste fantasy lotus flower. The other two tiers and fondant and royal icing hand piped mendhi designs and painted gold. I hope you like the cake and thank you for looking!

My favorite cake to date because its a representation of my all time favorite 1971 classic movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The top tier represents Mr. Wonka’s outfit: purple velvet jacket, pink floral shirt, green ascot, and rusty orange hat. All other elements are drawn from scenes and items found throughout the movie: the edible teacup, marshmallow mushrooms, and the large gummy bears from the candy land scene and the golden certificate and wonka bars too. I had to edit my design because the cake was too small to fit all the other items I created like a giant Violet blueberry and Veruca falling into the Egg shoot. Lots of fun to make and hope you like it.

This is a baptism/christening cake. Client specified she wanted quilted white fondant cake with baby blue pearls and topped with a cross made from small flowers. I think this is one of my cleanest cakes I’ve ever made – I’ve discovered Bakels fondant and absolutely adore it. I hope you like this cake. Thank you for looking!
