Btw the impacted photos have all been commented on by one particular user. Who has never posted a cake before. It’s very odd.

i totally agree. confusing and a bit disappointing.. i wonder really .. what does it take to make it to the daily top 15???! lols!

That is really sad that someone would go through the trouble of doing that. What does it get you? Its not like you are going to win something unless they are trying the bot out for the quarterly awards. Which is then reply really sad, because it is supposed to be a recognition of your peers enjoying your work. Just like the top 3 does. It is not le it will get you more clients because most people who would be your clients are not looking on here.

Yes it was odd. I’ve seen plenty of times people post cakes and it almost looks like there are multiple fake accounts that have only ever commented on that submitters cakes. I mean it’s totally great to be on the leader board or top 3 but… Reality is its not like it gets you more orders. It’s just a ego thing and we all like the praise or we wouldn’t post. we like to see other peoples work and we like others to see ours and think its good. I guess not everyone is honest or wants honest feedback they maybe just see it as a contest. Where you don’t really win anything lol.

Ana I was just throwing out theories but there is no way to prove anything. It was just something that looked odd but probably wasn’t what it seemed to be.

Ok. Thank you.

Ana- Maybe you are referring to Michal, LOL! Sorry Michal you fit the description…random friendly commenter with no cakes of his own to post….fishy! Just kidding, we love you :)

So after some sleuthing, I see the connection now between the cakeless commenter and the particular profile being commented on and getting ranked up very fast- way too suspicious in my opinion. And like Prima said, it’s just sad….um, but you better believe I’ll keep an eye out and be the bratty tattler and voice my opinion if this particular person does actually win anything through cheating. Not fair to the other decorators, Michal or really in the end to herself.

Ok, more stalking done- this particular person may or may not be using ‘bots’ per se, but looking at her FB profile is a total “like” beggar and is someone who really pushes others to like her page/posts….still sad, I’d rather others like my work or view my cakes because they WANT to, not because I begged, pleaded, made a deal or through other dodgy means.

Hello again. No, I was not referring to Michal. And I don´t understant what that person gain by using “bots” on others people work ???

Well in theory if someone had never posted cakes before but wanted to guarantee a top spot…and was savvy enough to write a program they would want to see how it works first. Keep in mind there are many times someone in top 3 has what look like fake accounts commenting and favoriting. Which is really the fastest way onto the leaderboard i stead of by view. You can tell by looking at those accounts and you will see they were likely created about the same time as the others and have only ever commented in one persons body of work. It’s all theory though. As a site grows there are going to be people trying to get around the system. And no it doesn’t make sense as to why because it’s not like you win a cash prize or something from being in the top. I’ve seen the fake account thing happen on cakers who are very talented too who would probably be in top 3 all on their own merit. So no. It makes no sense to those of us who are honest,

Oh my you girls are good at this investigating!!! Secret agent Kristen and Corrie at your service!! LOL

You can find me on facebook: verjaardagstaartenbestellen.nl

As some of you mentioned already – it doesn’t make sense to boost the traffic, comments and faves by using fake accounts. It’s like buying a trophy with my own name.

Anyway – If you’ll find out that someone is doing this, just send me a private message and I will take care of that.

Since there are around 100 000 visitors each month, we are not able to find out who exactly makes all the views (you don’t have to be registered to view cakes). Because of this, we’re still reevaluating the formula – the more visitors we have, the less the weight of the view in the formula is.

I’m the biggest spammer here btw. :)

I understand…:(
I´m not a professional caker… I would love to be one… I just like to play with cakes… I just love see what I can do…I don´t have much experience and I was very happy with the results of my cakes…but I really hope that the results were for real…because I just wanted to share my work with people who could appreciate and let me know what they thing of it…

Ana- for not having a lot of experience you are doing wonderful cakes. I hope being the victim of a ‘bot’ or otherwise screwy person/profile doesn’t get you discouraged. I can assure you that your cakes were honestly appreciated by many REAL people- keep up the good work :)

I’ve had a few of my cakes commented on by users with no cakes and just assumed they were people who either like to stalk around the site for inspiration, are too shy to put their work out there, or are people who have landed on the site through pintrest (I do pin my cakes to my pintrest page), facebook, or some other page and registered for the sake of commenting or stalking. (shrugs shoulders) Also, had a couple of my cakes that hit the leaderboard that in all honesty, shocked me since I personally felt I had other cakes in the past that I thought were way better, but who am I to judge what others find interesting and “clickable”. Eitherway, if true, the whole thing is somewhat disheartening.

OOOOOOhhhhhhhh!!!! YaY!!! Thanks Linda for showing me this! I can’t believe it!! I’ve been annoyed enough about the fake accounts but the technology bit has me bamboozled!!! What a cheek!!! It’s really sad that they feel the need to do this but it’s also massively unfair to those that got cheated out of the recognition they deserved. I think we should all be vigilant, but also make an effort to comment on cakes that aren’t perhaps the most amazing cakes you’ve seen, to spread the love around so to speak. Maybe this will help if everyone is feeling a little more encouragement, especially if their just starting out. Did any of that make sense? :)
Thanks Kristen and Corrie :) xx

Well said Raewyn! It is nice to spread the love around. I know I am so ecstatic when I get a comment on one of my cakes.

Toni, Pennsylvania, https://www.facebook.com/WhiteCraftyCakes

Omg! I have just commented on a monster high cake in the top 3 this evening. All of the posts (except mine) seem to be fake accounts. If you look at the activity logs for all of the posters, they have only ever commented on her cakes, and have no cakes themselves uploaded.

It does my head in! Why do people do ths? Absolutely crazy, and very narcissistic!

www.facebook.com/amandaslittlecakeboutique

Its not narcissistic! Since they are not fake and were not done by me. I happen to have 2 to 3 clients that like to comment on my cakes and made accounts. They have all wanted to support my cakes and none of them realized what commenting did. I have asked them not to comment on my cakes in the future on this site!!! I don’t come on here to make the Top 3, I came on to share my love of cake.
