i have not tried it yet, i use lizzo mareks recipe that requires 1,25 lbs of Wilton in it and i always liked it… now i’m getting worried too because i have heard a lot of people complaining about the new wilton recipe..

I only use it when i need black because i cant get a true black fondant on my own. But this crap cracks like crazy!

I use Liz Marek’s marshmallow fondant recipe also, but haven’t tried it with the new Wilton fondant. Has anyone tried it out yet?

I only use it when I make Liz Marek’s MMF recipe too but I’ve heard others say the exact same thing. I was worried since I have a wedding cake (mind you a first for me) later this month. As soon as I heard that there was a new one, I went to buy 5 lbs of the old one so that I could use it for this cake and have some left over. I used to love mixing it with gumpaste for flowers & figures when I didn’t have MMF on hand. ughh

Lucky you Goreti! I tried 4 different stores to try and get some of the old Wilton, but to no avail! Everyone now has the new formula!

I believe it. I thought about buying more but when I went back a couple of days later all they had was the new formula.

my walmart in north port fl still has the old stuff. they only have a few of the new stuff. I just wrote a complaint to the company. i’ll see if i get a response.

You should buy it all up Samantha! You could probably sell it on Ebay at a higher price than you paid for it! It will be in high demand! LOL!

I know the hobby stores had old ones on sale and got rid of it all before they got in the new one, but i don’t think walmart does that, i will try at my walmart too and get some old ones.

Omg! Yes I’m going back to making my own fondant! The new Wilton fondant is not holding up nicely on my cakes! It’s stretching and sliding off on the sides, it’s too soft! It has me stressing out, smh

LecieCakes

Lecie… its so strange because its to soft but yet at the same time to dry. I dont get it at all. I can tell buy the taste that there is marshmallow in it but how much i dont know. I wish i could get my mm fondant black. and really dark true colors. but I cant with out it getting to sticky.

Personally, I like the new Wilton fondant much better than the old one. It is way easier to roll out and the taste is far better. I also like the new more vibrant colors. I have a terrible time with Satin Ice which is the fondant of choice by most bakers – unlike Satin Ice, I have not experienced any cracking or slipping with the new Wilton fondant. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Let’s all write them with our feed back, it can’t be they are getting positive feed back only!

Thats what i was saying… But she said thats what they have been getting as if they have gotten any bad feed back… but if u write them they will send you stuff!

I have to say I do not like the new Wilton formula either. It is way to soft for making flowers but have not tried to cover a cake yet. I also use the Liz Marek MMF with Wilton and love it. I have two cakes I am covering tonight and am getting kind of nervous after reading everyone’s opinion. I will let you know the outcome. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I will post after mission has been completed and let you know. One easy and less stressful way to cover your cake is using Sift by Kara’s paneling method. I have done it several times and I love it.

Hi, Mayra,

Don’t be nervous… I have covered many cakes with the new Wilton fondant and haven’t had any trouble so far. I find that when I’m apprehensive about doing something, I usually have trouble getting it done… so don’t even think about it… This new fondant is a little too soft for flowers, but even with the old recipe, I always added Tylose powder or mixed it with gumpaste to ensure the flowers were strong enough. Keep us posted! :)

Thanks DJ. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous during the process of covering my cake. I mixed my MMF with the Wilton and the texture was great and easy to work with. As mentioned before, I use the paneling method that Sift by Kara uses which avoided the issue of it cracking on the sides etc. The only problem I encountered was when smoothing it out with my fondant smoother, it would stick a little and pull the fondant so I had to apply a little of my powdered sugar / corn starch blend. Not sure if anyone else has had this issue. I also worked with the brown fondant and the texture on the new and improved was better than the old. All in all, it was ok. I did blend some Tylose powder with the new formula but still too soft for flowers and my cricut cake so I had to buy some gumpaste. Will post pics of my cake tomorrow. : )
