Really? Then I wonder why mine are so wavy…..to the point where I cant even use it anymore :(

I have had mine for a long time and it’s still in great condition. However, after using it, I store it the same way it came in – I put the paper in between the layers, roll it tight and insert it into the tube. So far, I’ve had no problems with it.

I would have to say ditto to DJ’s comment. I have had mine for a while and I also store it back the way it came after I am done using it.

I have heard of someone using a hairdryer to gently heat the mat while another person holds it hanging straight down until it straightens out…might help

I have had the exact same problem….not happy, as you stated, product isn’t cheap. So very disappointing. I store it exactly as others have stated, but with a linen t towel between the layers…then back in the tube. When I first got it, loved it, worked great. The last fondant I rolled out….nightmare city!!!! It stuck like glue. I had wiped The Mat as it got dog hair on it, dried with a linen tea towel and re-conditioned with just the smallest amount of shortening. Should have worked perfectly. I also noticed it’s not quite as soft & subtle as it use to be. It’s only 3 yrs old…and Im just a hobby baker, so it hasn’t been used a lot. I debated writing the inventors and asking why this was happening. They sell food grade vinyl at my local Wal Mart…so if I need to replace, going to buy there. Half the price of what I paid.

Hi jchuck, I got that same vinyl at walmart for like $8.00 a YARD!! Works GREAT, better then the MATT.

Yes Rosa….a darn sight cheaper than the $45 CAD + shipping that I paid for the Mat. I don’t think the Mat should have deteriorated and become so brittle after only 2 years!!!!

Hi guys, ive only just got my mat and used it about 4 times now and I love it! Makes covering larger cakes so much easier. Thanks for the heads up on the wavy problem, ill keep my eye on it. I also store it in the tube with the paper as it came so hopefully ill have no probs, we’ll see in a few years of use xx

Whisk Cake Company

jchuck….I had the same problem with the fondant sticking. I even emailed the company and asked if they had any suggestions on troubleshooting the problems I was having with the fondant sticking…no response. I was very disappointed.

Well Kristi
I didn’t order my Mat from the actual “inventors”, but another supplier. But I know another decorator who did contact them..and as you said…no response. Now a lot of household items you buy…you have 90 days to respond to a problem & return. Since I had mine 3 yrs., I couldn’t prove any misuse of it or improper storage of the Mat. Soooo..lesson learned…you don’t buy fro them again….

If the fondant sticks, it’s likely because it needs to be re-seasoned by rubbing shortening over the surfaces that will have contact with the fondant and then wiping it off. I just make sure mine is neatly rolled up every time I finish using it and I haven’t had any problems with it so far after using it for two years.

I DID re-season Kendra, as others have done also who, posted here. Didn’t help. And I have always roll up carefully as well when finished…..just a conundrum why it isn’t working.

Funny Christine
I just tried to use my Mat when I made my bridal dress cake a week ago. DISASTER….big time. Wavy, brittle. Even my husband couldn’t believe the condition considering how well I stored it. Garbage.

Oh no June……im so sorry to hear you had a disaster with it.
Sounds like you are best giving it a place in the garbage and stick to your methods that work! ;-))))

I wonder if it becomes brittle when it is not used a lot? I have had mine for about two years and have had no problems. Like others I store it in the tube rolled up, but not with paper or anything between. I havent seasoned mine since buying it, but I usually grab a tiny biy of fondant and rub it all over the inside layers of the mat to get rid of any bits of fluff or dust that inevitably seems to find its way on to the mat. This picks up everything and maybe leaves a slight amount of fat from the fondant which may be like seasoning it. Sorry to hear you have had so much trouble with yours June and Rosa. Maybe the weather has something to do with it too. Bad form that the manufacturers don’t reply to your queries.

Thats a great tip Lorene……to get rid of those bits of lint and fluff that the mat attracts, thank you! ;-)

You’re welcome Christine. I do the same to my hands! I know it is a little pedantic, but it works! ☺️
