Purple Perfection Peony

11 days ago by Bobbie | 10 comments »

Peonies are one of my favorite flowers, we have had them adorn our landscaping for almost 22 years; I remember planting our first peony plant with Sydney (she was almost two) and it just happened to be Mother’s Day. As I was covering the the second cake Sydney came through the door ready for 10 days of fun (she is spending the summer in DC). I had originally created the Peony cake topper as another cake, in a long line, of 21 birthday cakes for her to choose...

Deb Miller's Vanilla Marshmallow Fondant

40 days ago by MillersCakes | 3 comments »

This is my recipe for Vanilla Marshmallow Fondant. It’s very smooth to work with, drapes beautifully, and tastes somewhat like candy corn. I’ve been asked for the recipe, so I figured I’d finally write it down and share it. It’s color is a perfect match to my homemade butter cream. It is not a bright white…more an ivory. It has more ingredients than many recipes, might take a little longer to make, but it is worth it. Enjoy! ….This recipe makes about 3 lb. 13 oz....

Cupcake Bouquet Step-by-step

425 days ago by bakerlou2 | 9 comments »

As this is a question I get asked quite a bit, I decided to photo my latest cupcake bouquet every step of the way to show exactly how it’s done. It’s fairly easy to do and by using different colours and decorations you can create a beautiful bouquet that not only looks lovely but tastes great too! BakerLou – Cupcake Bouquet Tutorial You will need:A suitable container (I like to use metal buckets that are easily available from florist suppliers, they are approx 6”...

How to work ahead

413 days ago by CakeHatteras | 19 comments »

Time management is a key ingredient to cake decorating success. I have found a way to work ahead. Recently, I used this method and was able to complete 3 cakes, all with detailed fondant accents, in just a few hours. (all the fondant work was completed ahead of time) All I had to do was ice my cakes, and place the completed, shaped fondant on the cakes. This method kept the fondant flexible. I was able to fit the fondant decorations, to several cakes into one plastic 12 X 12 case. The 12 X 12...

How we made Goofy out of Fondant/gumpaste

411 days ago by Pam and Nina's Crafty Cakes | 19 comments »

This is our first attempt at an iconic character. We were pretty happy with the results! We couldn’t find any help on line, so this is how we made our goofy. We hope it can help! First always make your colors in estimated sizes so that you have it ready when you need it. Stopping to make a color can really slow up your progress and take up a lot of time. Just keep in ziploc as you work. Make 3 balls out of the blue. This will end up the body and the two legs. Roll t...

I decided to create this very easy and simple tutorial to demonstrate an easier way (at least for me) of creating this flower rather than doing the petal by petal process and the outcome is just as stunning. Enjoy!
