The bride wanted a romantic wedding cake with many pearls and many special handmade details. For the bottom tier, I placed each sugar pearl by hand, one at a time, after I created a pattern I liked. The middle tier has a very pale shade of “Tiffany blue”, with strings of lace-like pieces. The top tier had strings of pearls handing down and finally, the topper was made by completely covering a letter “R” in edible pearls.

My client had a wonderful vision for her daughter’s sweet 16 cake. She purchased a ruffled shower curtain from Anthropologie to use as the backdrop to her dessert table and asked that I use it as inspiration for the cake. I made a ivory starfish and a sand dollar (mermaid currency) as additional decor.

A very special cake for a very special birthday woman. This cake was to be inspired by “Tiffany” with blue and pearls.

This is the second cake that I have donated via Icing Smiles Inc. This was a special request by a little girl turning 6 years old, at her half-wait point of chemotherapy. It’s hard to explain how much time, love and prayers were put into this gift. The top tier is Neapolitan with cake layers of Classic Chocolate, Vanilla Italia and Strawberry. The bottom tier was Dark Chocolate. It was decorated in fondant and the piping was done with royal icing. To all of my friends who have love and butter cream to spare. 2012 seems to be the year of the ombre pattern and I love the opportunity to make my clients happy with lots of different approaches. This cake was for parents expecting a little boy. For their baby shower they wanted a tall cake with gradients of green and blue and branch and owl decor to match their baby shower invites. I was fortunate to also cater, set and style their entire dessert table as well. ;D

The bride was very particular about the color she wanted for her 4-tier wedding cake, to be covered in an ombre pattern in vanilla butter cream. I had her go to a paint department and select the exact shade she wanted the darkest color to be. The result was “Sweet Rhapsody” a paint color by Behr. It was adorned with a giant peony. Inside were layers of Gluten Free Strawberry, Lemonade and Red Velvet.

The 7 year old birthday girl enjoyed her glam-rock-star-diva cake and I loved making it for her! I was asked to incorporate a number of colors and a cheetah and zebra-inpired print. I made the guitar out of fondant as well. Inside were layers of Lemonade, Chocolate and Red Velvet.

Daruma is a Japanese symbol of good luck, perseverance and encouragement. I came up with this concept to celebrate Japanese family reunion that was also a birthday celebration.

This was such a fun cake to make! My challenge was a bubble theme in greens and blues. I used Jolly Rancher candies to create the candy bubbles and balls. The result was super fun and it’s great for a kids party since the whole cake (including the decor) taste and smell yummy!

My client asked for a beautiful cake to celebrate her baby shower, in baby blue with an ivory de masque pattern and ivory peonies. Inside is a passion fruit cake with vanilla cream cheese frosting. ;)

Lots of love and time went into making all of the decorations for this cake. The suitcase and book are Vanilla Velvet cake with pineapple-coconut butter cream filling. The blocks fondant covered foam. This was a joy to make and I loved how involved the momma-to-be was to make sure this cake was her dream come true. xox

I love it when male clients allow me to make something special for the women in their life. Andy asked for a double decker Mother’s Day cake with a pretty spring-feel. I added cascading flowers for a super special celebration cake that I hope the mothers in his life truly enjoyed. xox

I came up with an “ocean meets the sunset” concept, inspired by the lovely sailboat cake from One Sweet Slice. The client asked for something bright and beautiful for their 18 year old who loves the beach/ocean. I wanted it to be sophisticated and gorgeous. Inside, the bottom layer is “Sunset” Velvet cake in shades of red, orange and yellow and the top layer is Raspberry. Each tier has nine shades of fondant. Lots of work and lots of love! It was an absolute joy.

I was asked to make a sweet 16 birthday cake for a daughter that loves her Japanese heritage. I went for it with my own concept with fondant geisha and whimsical fantasy flowers.

This was a super small Green Tea, gourmet cake, wrapped in ribbon with three large green orchids for this 6” cake.

This customer was so great! Their baby boy’s first birthday was all about Toy Story 3. They gave me figurines of all the characters and asked that I make a tiered cake to depict Sunnyside Daycare from the movie. I went for it and added the baby’s name in fondant blocks. Inside, the cake was a true rainbow: yellow passion fruit, orange mango, along with red, blue and green velvet cake. They loved it and I loved making it for them. ;)

For my wonderful stepdaughter’s 18th birthday, I wanted to make her something unique to match her style and beauty. Pale pink tiers, with navy blue ribbon and fondant pearl and lace accents make this cake something she’ll always remeber. This cake was made at home and with lots of love for the first child in my life that is now all grown up and will always hold a precious place in my heart. xox
