I used Alison Lawson’s squiggles design to do this dome-shaped cake. Ever since I saw one of her cakes, I fell in love with the design and wanted to make my own.She has a tutorial here:
http://www.austcakedecoratingnetwork.com/cake_autumn_2013

This is a light chocolate fondant cake with a Lindt 70% chocolate ganache/buttercream mix, covered with fondant. The cross design is my own :-)

She wanted earthy tones… I had shown her flowers in pink shades and these (in a peach creamy shade) and she chose these.

Both cakes (square and round) are 4-layers chocolate cake with layers of Valrhona Guanaja chocolate ganache and one layer of a puree of caramelized tangerine peel. The customer sent a me a message earlier to tell me it was more than succulent (that makes me happy).

I came across Christophe Michalak’s site a few days ago and fell in love with his creations. And I desperately wanted to try one. He was named best pastry chef in the world for 2005. Luckily I found this one:
http://www.tarteletteblog.com/2008/02/strawberry-lime-tartelettes-and-new.html

It is a Almond Short Dough, Almond Cream and Lime Curd Whipped Cream…

It is one of the yummiest tarts/cakes I’ve had and it is far better than a “Fraisier”...
I still added few fondant accents :-))

Lifeguard to the Rescue...

The brief regarding this cake: the girl’s mom wanted a “pool” cake for her daughter’s boyfriend’s birthday (both 18 years old) who happens to work as a lifeguard during summers. She wanted something small that will be a total surprise to Andy. So had to do the red shorts (of course), the girl in the pool waiting to be rescued… She also wanted to keep it simple so no “girly” stuff such as flowers!

It’s a 6” triple layer chocolate cake with chocolate ganache in between layers, covered with ganache then with a layer of chocolate buttercream on the sides and blue buttercream on top with Kit Kat of course!

I must say this is my first time making figurines and I must admit it is not easy especially when they are small. I found it hard to hold it in my hand and try to shape it without damaging it or squeeze hard on it. Oh well, there is a first for everything and this was MY first :-))

I had to try for my own birthday as I was too scared to try it for someone else :-)) The final result was not too bad, I liked it. I started with the WiltonTeal Green icing color and did the ombré effect by adding white fondant. I did not have time to do a cabbage rose and I don’t have a peony cutter yet. So, a dogwood did it!!

Adding to the other posts, here is one with a special gold look…

This is one of several cupcakes that I already posted (and more to come) designed for Mother’s Day here on March 21 (beginning of Spring – that is why I decided to do an all-flower theme with totally different looks)...
Thanks for looking :-)

{I am posting this while waiting to find out who the next Pope is… I guess everyone else is doing the same as there are not a lot of members active right now :-) }
