Butter Cream Pink Camo Cake Tutorial

This is the way I do a camo cake with the Viva paper towel method.
(You can watch Edna De la cruz tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIXHFqpJK84 )

You will need:
a crumb coated cake

5 pastry bags filled with these colors: White,Light Pink,Meduim Pink,Deep Pink, Tan

After you have dirty iced your cake, start piping icing on cake. No need to use a tip. You will want to hold the bag on a 90* angle to the cake. You will want to pipe the design similar to tree branches. start with one color, then the next and so on to fill in the holes. DO NOT USE A SPATULA TO SPREAD THE ICING! This will ruin your design.

Take a Viva paper towel and a fondant smoother and start compressing, pressing and smoothing the icing. (I promise, this works!)

Don’t give up! If for some reason the seams don’t come together use the paper towel and the heel of your hand. The heat from your hand will help smooth the icing. Go over it again with the smoother to get it perfectly smooth.

(I have take the photo from the same angle so you can see how it comes together. Look at the ‘tan’ branch in the pattern)

And the finished cake!

I just used Wilton’s buttercream recipe which has been tweaked to fit my climate. (lot’s of humidity and heat!)
