Scary cakes & Halloween!!! #1: Walking Dead in buttercream!

I frosted a 1/4 sheet red velvet w/ buttercream and smoothed w/ very warm water w/ knife dipped in and shake off excess. * (tip) I also pre-spray lightly water before smoothing and knife in warm water.
Center of cake put a deep line w/ spatula and smooth out those edges.
Make a black line in between these crevices.
w/ gray icing make # 4 line to do outline of bottom door plates and fill in w/ #10 or 12 tip. then smooth over being careful w/ edges, as you can pull towards center and then outline w/ #4 tip again. #4 tip for door hinges on outer door also used. Pipe starting on top edges and pull down to sides. Can dip finger in warm water and smooth and shape.
make base door opening handle plates same way, then make brown bar across door w/ some toothpick wood indentions and black streaks for wood and pull w/ toothpick.
Take #4 or #5 tip and make handles starting at top of handle and pull over brown wood to base of handle.
Pipe #4 or #5 flesh toned fingers coming out of door crevices (one set at top and one a bottom of doors).

  • take toothpick and make marks for knuckles and nail beds.
Make loops #3 w/ gray for chain around door handles, and lock outline, and fill in.. outline again.
After surface of buttercream dries or crusts, use flesh and pink or red tone airbrush paint and art paint brush you get in cake section in store.
Brush areas of door and add some black and brown icing dots First and then add paint accents to look more old and gory.
Brush flesh & pink tones on hands for bloody look, and Pearl paint for finger nails, all metal parts (door plates, handles, chain and lock, hinges).
Take black food color paste and some drops of water and make a thinner paste or use liquid black gel color already thinner, and use brush to paint on words.. harder to do on buttercream, but you will have to go over possibly more than once to get it dark enough.
Enjoy creating this spooky cake! :)
