Do Your Cakes Have A "Front"?

Hello all you cake geniuses!
I try to make my cakes attractive from all sides, even if there is a “back” to the cake (like a treasure chest or something), and I’d like your advice if you could spare a minute.
If you have several figures on the cake – be it animals or people – is it better to have them all facing in one direction, or to place them so that they face “out”, and no matter which side of the cake you look at you look into a face?

yes, I know what you mean… I try to do it so you can see from all angles, but will always have its “best side” in the front… like the Beatrix Potter Cake I did back in October. i tried to place the toppers so look at all angles. and it was painted all the way around, but put my favourites to the front…
interesting topic :)

Should have put it in the forum somewhere… :P

It really depends on the cake Angel. I do strive for my cakes to look great at every angle. But sometimes, just circumstances, I end up with a “bad side”. Then that then ends up as the back of my cake. And as far as figures, so far, mine have been placed mostly in the front, or in the middle of my cake…

it definitely depends on the cake. I do cakes especially for children, or birthdays, so I want the cake to have a “good front”, so you can have a nice picture, and keep it to remember. so, in my personal opinion I always try to make it look good for the picture. Most of the times I put the figurines (people or animals ) looking to the front.

Mine always seem to have a “back” even if I haven’t planned it.

If I think about it, a lot of my cakes do actually have a front. But they are definitely decorated all the way around. :)
