cake internatiional ich dien by glen beardsmore

now cake international is over i would like to share my experience.
i don’t normally do long posts, this is one of those, please read to the end.
for those who couldn’t make the show “dave” was made over four months, made in five parts and took four hours to assemble.
i decided on this theme as its one that is close to my heart.
the poem (poster) is the middle verse of “vitai lampada” and the only verse my mother remembered, and would quote this to me when i was a child.
just before the show opened i piped a tear on dave knowing that some may see it, some may not, but i wasn’t ready for the reaction i received.
some saw it and had to think a little, others cried too.
i remember saying to one woman " please don’t cry, this (pointing at dave) to to remind people who may have forgotten and not us"
i met so many forces for all arms and all regiments who had traveled just to see dave… people that meant a lot!!
even people travelling quite a way who were general public, thank you.

on a personal note nothing moved me more than meeting an old soldier, tall fella, i asked " guards ? " he said yes, iv’e done three honor guards for her majesty and was part of mountbattens funeral honor guard. at this point he said " your work is spectacular and stood to attention and saluted dave….there are no words……..
finally may i say again thank you to melanie underwood for all her help and support without which none of this would have happened. renshaws baking for sponsoring me.
Steve Norgrove for coming all this way to photogragh dave.
Mark Richardson for the flag loan and being interested.
r mon re (m)
and my wife Samantha for encouragement and physical help on setup day.

Glen, I saw Dave when I was there Thursday assembling and he caught my attention while I was dashing around, he’s amazing!! . What a beautiful poignant story here, so touching and today as I’m reading it, brings a lump to my throat.
Well done on creating something so meaningful xx
