Off We Go !

One of my very good friends Kalie suggested I start a blog to document my progress on starting my new business … So here it is ! I hope you enjoy it .

The idea was originally founded in Spain in 2012 where we used to live hence the “Costa” part of the company’s title . A week after I was made redundant from a job in marketing and sales – I was sat at home twiddling my thumbs wondering what I could do next, not one to sit still for too long and whilst debating on my next career at home, I would potter around the house and inevitability end up in the kitchen cooking and baking … I actually discovered that in the words of Mr Kipling I actually was making exceedingly good cakes ! So I started making little cupcakes for friends and family I wasn’t very good at all at the decorating part to start with so I started teaching myself by watching you tube and my reading Facebook pages practising and working with different techniques . Living overseas my materials were really limited but I did the best I could with what I had. Later that very same month our eldest daughter became seriously ill and we made the biggest decision ever to move back to the UK for her healthcare after 9 years it was a huge upheaval for us all.

Landing back on firm soil I started to get bored, I was back in the same area where I had previously lived but it was so different to Spain, the kids were at school I was home alone, I needed/wanted something to do, so I decided to get back into baking to learn more techniques, play around with dummy cakes and designing, finding all the tools and goodies that are the tricks of the trade when baking and decorating and gradually fell in love with what I was doing. So by the beginning of 2015 I had well and truly been bitten by the cake bug so decided to go for it – full time ! Arrrrghhhh very scary. But with the help of friends and family throwing recommendations my way I literally hit the floor running.

We moved into a new home in Hadleigh, Essex and my gorgeous husband made me a “cake shed” created from a mess of a lean to at the side of the house, into my little piece of heaven. I wanted to do everything above board so called the local council who gave me all the advice I needed to set up a baking business from home and away I went ( I will blog about this later ;) ) Soon I was starting to get even more recommendations and the rest they say is history !

As well as specialising in bespoke novelty cakes, I love the whole vintage era, so that is why I decided that I would concentrate my audience to the Shabby Chic, Vintage, Pin-up, Rockabilly style wedding cakes and so the sister company Essex Vintage Wedding Cakes was created ! I did my very first ever wedding fayre on Sunday and was absolutely blown away by the amazing compliments and attention my cakes produced !

Churchill once said “If you find a job you love, you will never work again” Wow was he right I love what I do and I believe that shows in my work. I hope you enjoy the blog and look forward to seeing you on my facebook page where you will see my latest creations, tips, ideas and some great competitions xxx

Thank you ladies, I must admit I am a little bit in love with my cake shed as I call it too ! – Hubby did good :) Our Jasmin is doing really well now – thank you for your thoughts . She was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease called Type 1 diabetes ( not to be confused with Type 2 ) her betacells in her pancreas decided to fight each other and kill of the insulin producing cells so now she has to inject 5 times a day , every time she eats and before going to bed … It’s been tough but she doesn’t let it hold her back … she has a little job as Princess Anna at children’s events – so not only am I plagued by the whole Frozen theme for my cakes ( which really doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon ) but I am also stuck with it at home too ! …. here she is being the perfect princess ! – or as perfect as a 16 year old can be ;)
