My Cake Decorating Journey

I´m Arantxa, an spanish 35 year old woman. I´m married and I have a 5 year old beautiful son, he´s the light of my life.

Since I was a little girl I loved drawing, painting, and doing things with my hands. I went to university and studied Fine Arts and started working as a graphic designer. I liked it but it wasn´t my dream, I missed my pencils so much… So two years and a half ago I designed my own kids drawings and started painting them on t-shirts, bed clothing, and so on. This project was Pitipeta and on the meantime I lost my job because of the crisis. It was hard because of the money but I was also happy because I was painting again and it felt so good.

A year and a half ago I saw some beautiful cookies decorated with royal icing. So I tried to make some pretty cookies and cake for my birthday´s son, but I didn´t like the result so I started searching for pictures on the internet, but I still didnt know the materials so my search was limited. I never heard about fondant or anything else, so I tried to make some cupcakes. It was fun, because I enjoy baking and see the faces when people enjoy eating what I cook. When I´m curious I can´t stop so I started looking on youtube and here at Spain the tv started broadcasting Charm City Cakes show on sundays. And I realized how far cake decorating can go. Because of my situation I couldn´t have any course so my teachers were the youtube and the tv ha ha. But my cake decorating fever started, I wanted to make cakes as great as the ones I saw on the tv. My first fondant cake was The Orc Cake for my brother´s birthday. And that´s the way it started my second project: SweetKOKEKO.

I love this world because I can make use of a lot of skills: modelling, painting, sculpture, baking, and so on. Every cake is different and I can use my imagination to try to go further and to pressure my skills. I love it because I´m always learning. For me the taste of the cake is as important as the decorating. So it´s a double challange. I´m still unemployed but I never felt as fulfilled as now. My dream is to have my own SweetKOKEKO shop, or to work as a cake designer with my own designs. But I know here at Spain is difficult, but I´m still trying hard!

My evolution! Sorry if I make some writing mistakes!
