What inspires you to cake decorate ? #1: Create

At first I thought old ladies do this, staring into the cake cases at the Cairns show age unknow . But every year my mum would take me there and she would talk about all the effort they put into decorating their cakes. I love to bake the smell of my kitchen the smile on my Mr 2’s face when I have the oven going this inspires me to create edible art my art. Katrina’s art

How beautiful Katrina!! What inspires me is… everything! I love colours, feelings, movement, the light… flowers, paintings, illustrations, other peoples cakes, what I see everyday, happiness, love (here comes the feelings again) and colours again… imagination, wanting to go further… Ha ha I´m afraid it´s a bit confusing, but there are so many things! xx

So many facets to cake decoration that inspire me, but besides the massive creative fix I get… My ultimate pleasure is the joy it brings to others… There happiness has no price tag on it… That’s my rewards xxx

You must never limit your challenges, instead you must challenge your limits

Yes Callicious, that´s right, that´s the best reward! xx

Ditto Calli!! It’s also my creative outlet. I’ve tinkered in so many mediums over the years; but it seems that my cake decorating is the one I’ve stuck to. I love it. I work full-time in an administrative finance office (payroll) and nothing pleases me more that getting my hands ‘dirty’ with buttercream & fondant:)

My background is in fine arts and funny enough, pharmacy. I hated working in a pharmacy so I just didn’t go back after my maternity leave with my 3 year old son. I love art so this is very cathartic for me. I can get absorbed in the artistic details for hours and not even stop for a break.
My mom always told me to be happy in life and that life was too short, and literally just as I was starting my business in 2011 she was diagnosed with cancer and passed away a few month later at 54. I feel like me making this business from scratch and just loving it to death (even when there are a few parts I don’t necessarily like) just helps her legacy of living a full happy life live on. Being able to make others just as happy in the process is just an added bonus.

Totally agree Calli – I love the pleasure my cakes give to family and friends. Children’s faces are the best – birthday cakes are magical to them which is why I joined Free Cakes for Kids.
