3D Cakes #3: Making Running Shoe Cakes

If you have ever wanted to make a pair of shoes but are not quite sure how to go about it, I hope this set of photos with brief explanations is helpful in some way. Each shoe cake is on a piece of thin cake card cut to size. It makes handling the cakes so much easier. I used boozy fruit cake for these but the same process applies with other cake but without the marzipan. If you are using chocolate, lemon or madeira etc, ganache is good for coating the shape of the shoe cake and leaving it to set overnight before applying the outer covering. If you would like to see how to layer and shape chocolate cake, this link to my boots cakes may help. http://cakesdecor.com/entries/542-making-simon-s-mountaineering-boots

I made the orange icing the night before using with normal fondant and a sprinkling of tylose which I kneaded in well with the food colouring.

After I had covered the cakes with marzipan, I left them to set for a few days with a support under the toe and heel areas to create a lift effect.

Thank you for looking :)
