New Design and New Features

After almost 20 hours of migration, New CakesDecor is live! I know that some of you will feel like the old one was better or you did have your own way to browse it and now it doesn’t work the same way. Because of this, I would like to tell you why we did the redesign and show you what’s new and better.

Also, I wanted to let you know that we are still fixing and adjusting, so please be patient with us. I’m sure that together we’ll make the site much better than it was!

Why We’ve Changed it?
We decided to remake the site because of one main reason – the way it worked before, was “self destructive”. There were so many things storing in the database, that it was slowing down every week. There were also lots of security holes in the code that could be misused by spammers and hackers. The total breakdown was just the matter of time!

The Main Layout
Although we made some major design changes like using dark background or making the header much lower, most of the main parts remained the same. The main “browsing” navigation contains the same items(Cakes, Blogs, Recipes, Tutorials, Forums) and it is on the same place as it was before. The main “functions” navigation is still on the top right of the website.

Responsive Design
One of the main new features is the responsive design – it can adapt on whatever device you use. It works well on desktop, laptop, tablet or a mobile phone.

Faster browsing
As I said before, we made lots of adjustments in the “backend” which results in much faster browsing, uploading pictures, adding posts etc.

Larger Cake Pictures
I’m sure you noticed already that the cake pictures are much larger, so you can see the details better. Also the “Full Size” pictures works better then before. Just click on the Main Cake Picture and you are able to browse pictures using arrows or left and right keys on your keyboard. And it works everywhere – on Phones and tablets as well!!

Uploading a tutorial with lots of pictures? Not a problem!
Those of you who posted tutorial before, knows that it was not possible to upload multiple pictures at once. Posting tens of pictures one after another was really annoying. Now you can simply select all the pictures at once, click on Open, get your cup of coffee and watch how all the pictures are uploading automatically.

New Notification System
If you have any notifications, you will see them on the top right(red square with number). After clicking on it, you’ll be redirected to Notifications Page, where you can see them all. Once you check them out, they will be removed from the Notification Page. Every 6 hours, you will get notification email with all notifications grouped to one email. If your cake makes it to Daily Top 3 or is picked as an Editor’s Choice, you will get notification email right away.
