Romantic Eiffel Tower Valentine's Cake

This cake is really much smaller than it appears, it maybe feeds 6-8 people. I made it as a door prize for a Valentine’s party at our local hospital. At my last Mike McCarey class (Big Bird) he was also offering some of his other class materials and so I bought his Eiffel Tower cutting guides and impression mat. I have been dying to make it ever since and I thought since Paris was considered “The City of Romance” that it would fit the bill quite nicely.

I made this cake recently for a Sweet 16 Birthday party. It’s buttercream coated with sanding sugar to give it an icy effect. Gumpaste snowflakes, fondant swags and brooches, and letters cut from modeling chocolate are used as accents.

Funny story: This cake says “Megan” but was supposed to say “Morgan”. I give a nice account on my blog about how I made the repair at the venue: http://cupadeecakes.blogspot.com/2013/01/megan-vs-morgan-tale-of-on-site-repair.html

Disney Inspired Princess Blue Buttercream Wedding

I created this cake recently for a bride that was a big Disney fan and wanted a cake to make her celebrate that and make her feel like a princess. The bride brought in a Jim Smeal design and I WISHED I could have just recreated it entirely – I just love his work!

The scrolls are from a stencil I found online. I don’t know if you’ll be able to see it in the photos, but the bride also wanted some “hidden Mickeys” on the cake. The white pearl borders wound up being almost all hidden Mickeys, and that really came together as a happy accident!

I made this cake recently for a good friend for her child’s 4th birthday party. The theme was a Country HoeDown, so I used old wooden crates, denim jeans, bandanas and farm animals as my influences. The birthday boy also wanted the mooing tractor from Cars so I sculpted one from modeling chocolate. I put the sound module inside a tractor tire (also made from modeling chocolate) that sat on the cake board so he could get to it easier and play with it.

I made this cake a couple of weekends ago. The bride wanted her cake to look like burlap. I had the hardest time coming up with an impression mat I liked. I finally wound up using the grippy shelf liner that I use under my cakes to prevent them from sliding as an impression mat. It looked way better than the ones I bought!

I was writing about this for my blog tomorrow but I thought I would go ahead and share it with you guys. I made this cake this past weekend for a groom who really likes Copenhagen.

The original can is about 2” across – we scaled it up to 16” for the cake.. yep it was BIG! We used modeling chocolate for the sides and the lid. We cut most of the lettering from modeling chocolate too. The bottom half of the lid and the side label was printed on edible image sheets and pieced together.

I also made edible “tobacco” by mixing coconut with brown food coloring and then cooking it on very low heat to dry it out some. The look was very convincing!

This one was based off of the “Ahoy Baby Boy” line of party supplies/decorations. The client provided me with a paper plate and I used this to create all the decorations from modeling chocolate. Except the bees – they were just too small to cut so I printed them on edible image paper. The blue gingham pattern was also printed on edible image paper.

Peach Monogram Eyelet Lace Wedding Cake

Peach and coral have been big colors for my brides this season. This is a pretty standard 4-tier buttercream wedding cake. I used Fondarific for the eyelet portions. It doesn’t stretch as I’m cutting the details, but maintains the pliability to still wrap around the cake once I’m finished with the detail work.

Chocolate buttercream with a buttercream stencil and a sax made from modeling chocolate. And topped with a TON of peanut butter cups!

Glock 9mm Gun Grooms Cake

This was my first “lidded” cake, even though the lid wasn’t cake itself. I molded the gun out of modeling chocolate and while it could have been a cleaner piece, it was pretty realistic looking!

If you’re interested at all in how I did the lid, I chronicled the process on my blog:
http://cupadeecakes.blogspot.com/2011/05/chocolate-glock-grooms-cake.html#more
