What a great idea. I will be using this a lot because I normally transport cakes by myself. Thanks so much.

Transporting the final product is more nerve wracking than making decorations that won’t stick to the cake (LOL)… I cringe and my poor husband suffers even more when he’s doing the driving – it never fails that we hit a bump on the road or someone suddendly stops in front of us…

Right now I’m using a heavy, wooden box placed on top of a non-skid mat – if the cake is too small for the box, I put foam around it – so far it has worked pretty well, but I’ll try this one for the taller cakes.

Thanks for sharing this! It’s really valuable information!

great tip!

Great tutorial, thanks for sharing! I never thought to leave the dowels in the bottom tier sticking out a bit so you can get your fingers out of the way! Thats the part I really hate!

Maybe I just cant wrap my head around it, but if you have a center dowel through the cake and make a sudden stop, whats to say the cake still wont move forward and shift around the dowel?

My box was the exact size as the base cake board so it couldn’t move around. If your box is larger you would want to stabilize it somehow. Maybe using that sticky, non-slip shelf liner would do the trick.

Perfect timing – I was just trying to figure this out! Thanks for the tutorial.

WoW, thanks for sharing.

What if it was a fondant cake that required the decor to be placed on top ahead of time? How would you do it?

If you can’t change the design for transport you could try to put the dowel in off center.

Brilliant!

Great tutorial – thank you. I hate transporting cakes, all the hours spent on the cake only to be wrecked by a bump in the road.

Thank you so much…This is great..I hate the transport part too…Now it will be alot easier to do..Diane

I’ve never stacked a buttercream iced cake before, how do you keep the icing from coming off as you lift the top cake?

Have you tried making up a polystyrene box with a non slip mat on the base – then insert a frozen ice block – place the lid on the top and away you go. As soon as I have completed mine I will post pic’s.
