Thanks Pauline …..I too was nervous but fortund it easier than expected …well except for the proportions …..as u can see I still got the proportions wrong with the square panels on th doors and also it not being a proper square as it is supposed to be …mine turned out to be a rectangle as all 4 sides should have been the same width….and also the height should have been slightly taller so that the door got 4 panels with gaps…but I winged it….so I guess if I do this again I would calculate the panel sizes and cut my crumb-coated cake correctly ….so better to start off with a slightly taller cake….Aldo Pauline I went the slightly easy way by doing the panels simply by imprinting the squares but really they should be inlaid…do it just depends on how much detail you want yo put on depends on budget and time…

Mel this is fabulous. I have one of these to do this week to so thanks for the tips you gave to Pauline xx

Thanks for the tips Mel! Actually if you didnt mention it, your Tardis looks perfect to me. Don’t think the client’s budget is enough for a 3D sculpted cake and I am not too confident of those sharp and precise edges. Think I’ll propose a sugar model of the Tardis but not to keen on hand painting those signs either. Oh dear….!

Looks amazing Mel you did an amazing job
Thanks FifiCakes and Sarah! :)

Thanks Pauline….I’m not the best at straight edges really – my trick to covering the cake to look like sharp corners is to cut exact measures of each side panel in a stiff fondant with a little tylose added – let it dry just a little and then stick it on…then I covered the corners with a strip anyway…

Oh Pauline…and I forgot …you have to get edible prints for the poster and signs – wont have the same effect if hand painted!!!

looks so awesome Mel!! xxx

That’s the thing! I don’t use edible images on my cakes, preferring to hand paint. If possible, I will turn down cakes with details that are impossible to hand paint. Lol! :)

Sure Pauline – hand-painted will be brilliant of course and you are so fab – you will do an awesome job – also the ‘POLICE’ and ‘BOX’ can be done with the mini tappits…
Mel Sugarcraft Artist
Mel, Thanks for all your advice! I dont think I can hand paint it! It’s too small print so I am considering turning it down. Lol! :)

Great job Mel and if you didn’t mention it, never would have guessed there were any issues with the proportions! =D
