It was featured in Volume 4 issue 4. I was so excited to hear that they had used it, because its really quite a strange looking cake! The picture of the lady is the inspiration that they sent me.

Vintage Alice In Wonderland

This cake was taylor made to support an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding photoshoot. The colours were dirty turquoise blue, red and cream. I wanted to create a cake that relayed a clear romantic message, and because the theme was a classic story (my favourite), I wanted to use language as my medium to bring this message across. I thought of many different parts of the ‘Alice in Wonderland’ story and I thought the scene where the card guards are painting the queens roses red is such a well known scene, I knew that should be the scene to use. The only thing was that this specific scene is a bit naughty and not-so-romantic. I decided to turn it around to mean something good for the potential wedding couple. It comes across as if the couple’s world had no colour before they met and they’ve coloured each other’s worlds. If you take the sentence literally, it hints towards a blushing bride, as you picture the groom making the brides cheeks turn red. It also brings in the typical love colour of red. I covered the cake in white fondant and sprayed with light copper brown airbrush for a vintage effect. The frame and bottom boarder were made with very thinly rolled fondant, pressed out through a paper punch. Rolled white fondant roses were over-sprayed with airbrush to create the saturated painted look, and to allow some running of the red ‘paint’. Various font letter cutters were used for the romantic phrase. Other items in the photos include: Custom made ‘Eat Me’ biscuits, cake pops with heart decal, cupcakes and all stationery was designed by Vintage Wedding Press and can be found here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/VintageWeddingPress. All photos by Erindipity Photography. This cake was featured as a ‘Sketch-to-cake’ article in Cake Central Magazine.

This cake was featured in Volume 3 Issue 8 of Cake Central Magazine. I had Chicken Pox at the time, and because I had been invited to do this, I just could not pass up the opportunity! I wish that I could have made some figurines for this cake, but it was not possible. The inspiration photo that they sent was a model wearing a black and white design with lots of leaf and paisley type detail. They had mentioned that you did not have to stick to the colours of the pictuure they sent, so I decided to use Rainbow colours!! I think it turned out ok, considering how sick I was, and it’s definitely unusual!! Thanks for looking! xxx

Mr Willy Wonka and his Bride

This cake was made especially for the Canal Walk Bridal Fair Cake competition 2013, in which it took 2nd place! All photos by Erindipity Photography by Jess Commaille. The theme was ‘Love and Romance’ The actual cake inside is fake (styrofoam) but the decor and figurines are all icing. The idea behind the cake was inspired by the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” story. I was reading the book to my son at the time and I decided that because Mr Wonka never had any family in the story, I thought it would be a fun idea to give him a wife! The actual cake is a fashion cake, with edible gold lace and purple and orange pleats. The cake represents an open chocolate wrapper (the pleats) revealing the golden ticket (the lace). I was extremely happy to have achieved the bright gold look on the lace, exactly how i had planned it! The client (Gia’s Mom) wanted the bunnies to resemble realistic chocolate bunnies.
Everything is made from fondant, except the eggs, which are Smartie eggs! The whole idea was to have an Easter egg hunt on the cake, so I tried to hide some of the eggs behind tufts of grass!

The client, Julia’s mom told me that she just wanted the most beautiful cake for her beautiful daughter that had been through so much. her daughter’s favourite doll is this particular Lalaloopsy doll and she dressed as the doll for her party. Sometimes the people I make cakes for creep so deep into my heart, it’s hard to keep emotions in. I cried so much about the situation after the client left! Shoo, makes you think how good your life actually is. :)
The cake itself was 60cm tall.

The day of decorating the actual cake, I had stayed up the whole night before, working on a different cake, went to bed at 6AM and got up at 8AM to deliver the other cake. I got home from the delivery at 11.30 AM and still had to decorate the whole shoe cake! Pick up was due at 3PM. I was falling asleep while decorating, and my assistant kept waking me up. Eventually, I finished the cake off while the client was watching me. I was about 15 minutes overtime!!!

Have you ever wondered what Santa does to celebrate the end of the Christmas Season?
I made this cake to enter a competition last year for a local kitchen supplier, Yuppiechef.

Here’s the story…

After a long couple of days getting the last Christmas gifts delivered, Santa and Rudolf decide to end it all off in Sunny South Africa! Finishing the last of their ADMIN on Christmas day, they head off to do a few touristy things: Cable car, Aquarium, Boat rides, after which they enjoy a rustic meal at Moyo (an African restaurant). They then proceed to enjoy a night of mayhem in the city of Cape Town. Santa gets a tattoo, and his hat gets BLINGed! Rudolf purchases some African cuffs, gets his ear pierced and even gets his 2 front teeth pulled to fit in!
Rudolf manages to get in a last minute order at Yuppiechef, for his ultimate favourite spatula. After all the festivities, on Boxing day they land up on Boulders Beach(by invite only) to be waited on by their loving penguin fans who have followed them across the world! XXX (All edible.)
