I made this cake for the Icing Smiles Canada booth at a Chocolate Show in Toronto (a scandalous city to mention these days) a couple of weeks ago.

I could do anything, I just knew that I wanted to use modeling chocolate/candy clay since it was a chocolate show. The only limiting factor was the fact that I was traveling in on the commuter train and had to be able to carry from the train to the event.

For whatever reason I gravitated towards the 50s and the classic diner. The jukebox and banana split were covered in either modeling chocolate/candy clay or chocolate fondant. The jukebox was inspired by a photo I had seen on pinterest, which after searching turned out to be a 1950’s Jukebox Cutout by Beistle Company (can be found on Amazon.com). My proudest achievement were the bananas! As it was a display cake, I carved the jukebox and banana split dish from Styrofoam.

I am so happy to be able to be a part of Icing Smiles Canada in small ways so far. They just began this year and are working hard to get the word out raise much needed funds. I was happy to at least create some interest for our table so we could let many know what the organization is all about.
Thanks for looking… and reading all of that! :)

Great cake. Great job? I was at the Canda a Sweets show….I must have missed this one. When was the chocolate show????

Thank you jchuck. :) It’s called The Toronto Luxury Chocolate Show (I think I got that right!) and it was at Roy Thomson Hall on Nov. 3rd. (I heard about it at the Baking & Sweets show, but only because I was helping at the Icing Smiles Canada booth and their raffle was across from us!)
