Hibiscus - Brush Embroidery

Hibiscus - Brush Embroidery
Hibiscus - Brush Embroidery Hibiscus - Brush Embroidery Hibiscus - Brush Embroidery Hibiscus - Brush Embroidery

This was my very first try at the Brush Embroidery technique.
My cake was meant to have a huge hibiscus on top, but due to major humidity issues, my hibiscus , although quite nice (I actually made 2 of them), was not dry enough to risk placing on the cake. So, at the very last minute, I opted to transfer the design of the hibiscus onto the cake and freehand paint it with royal icing, giving it some dust colour as highlights.
I had never tried brush embroidery before, in fact, I am not very fond of working with royal icing, so this was a massive risk. As it turned out, the result was quite nice and a definite learning curve.
The cake was a Passion Fruit cake with a Passion Fruit curd as a filling, which I also made for the very first time.
I will be trying the combination again! :)
