These Peonies are 100% Royal Icing. They are part of my entry for Royal Icing Decorated Board Category that I joined in at OSSAS (Oklahoma State Sugar Arts Show). Fortunately I got lucky and grabbed first. This meant a lot to me because the category rules that the pieces are to be made out of pure royal icing and no other structural medium should be used. Quite a challenge and discovered and learned a lot along the way as I finished the sugar piece. And have grown in love with Royal Icing.
Shown are the stages from bud to full bloom. It was a trial and error finding the perfect tip to use to get the right petal size and curl effect.
Im a right handed piper, but this tip i used was a left hand piping tube. It is approximately 3-4 inches diameter for a full bloom.
Soft color was added and i did not use gel color, petal dust was mixed in with the royal icing before filling the icing in the bag.
Enjoy the blooms as much as I enjoyed piping them!
