I made this gold and white anniversary cake for the parents of a dear friend of mine who were celebrating 50 years of marriage. The design was one of the most ambitious that I’ve taken on so far, and included hand-made scrolls, flowers and of course the iconic “50”. All the decorations are edible, sculpted by hand and painted with 24kt gold dust. Each tier incorporated a different pattern to give the cake a textured character. Despite some misadventures along the way that included my 3-yr old son sneaking all the flowers I had made as an after-school snack, and as well as me dropping and shattering the large flower in the wee hours of the night before the cake was due, I somehow managed to get this cake completed on time and I could not be happier of the final result.
