This is my first ever wedding cake. It was for a small wedding so is only two tiers. The 10” bottom tier is carrot cake with orange buttercream and the top tier is chocolate cake with double chocolate ganache. The pleated effect on the bottom tier was achieved by taking hundreds of ribbons of ivory sugarpaste and individually placing them on a thin base of sugarpaste covering the cake. It took hours but it was all worth it as I love the effect. The top tier is covered in burgundy sugarpaste that I coloured myself then given a subtle shimmer using a mix of burgundy, old gold and mother of pearl lustre dusts. Finally I made a free form flower paste rose to sit on the top, and lightly dusted with old gold and mother of pearl, hence the name shimmer rose. I really loved making this cake and hope it’s the first of many wedding cakes. I hope you like it too!
