It took less than a day to do this, including the toppers and flowers, board, the lot.
They were quite specific with their instructions i.e. a plain, simple, smooth, quiet cake with nothing fussy about it and with piped icing instead of ribbon round the bottom of the cakes. I hope I achieved that!
The lady who ordered this asked for the cake to be similar to one I made last year which they had seen in my albums, with the same sugarpaste blue ‘woollie’ booties and little white teddy. I added a small sprig of spring flowers to bring in a little additional colour. The ribbon through the booties, label and teddy is real. Although it is possible to make fine ribbons from sugarpaste, they are so fragile and make it difficult to keep the toppers as keepsakes without breakage.
The top tier is a 7" fruit cake which they provided (was the top tier from their wedding cake). I stripped and re-marzipanned it a a few weeks ago.
The bottom tier is 12" Chocolate fudge cake, three layers with chocolate ganache icing in between and white ganache under the blue fondant.
There was also a 10" square victoria sponge with buttercream and raspberry jam as a separate cutting cake.
