LV Handbag

So this was the first ever ‘handbag’ cake i’ve made. I’m happy with the details, would change a few things for next time but not so happy with the LV logos. I used a stencil and my bag had ‘movement’ so it looked more like a real bag and the stencil obviously didn’t lie flat so it was quite difficult to get a neat finish. Does anyone know if I was better off painting, sponging or airbrushing it on? Or maybe skip the stencil all together?

Still pretty happy with it but definitely room for improvement.

Hi Miss Piggy :) I have had the same issue, I’ve only done two LV bags and the first one I painstakingly cut out and made each symbol into a stamp (cardboard and polystyrene), then stamped each one onto the bag then painted over each impression with gold. It took hours and was ok, but could have been much better! The second time I used a stencil (bought from Jo @ Ciccio Cakes) and I used painters tape to hold the stencil in place and did it in small sections, then royal iced the pattern on which I then painted gold once it dried – also took a bit of time but not as long as the first one! There were a couple of blury ones but I used a toothpick to remove the excess royal icing before it dried, still a couple came out a bit blury. But the overall effect was good and the customer loved it (which is the main thing)! Your bag looks amazing, your details are fantastic and when you look at it as a whole you don’t notice any imperfections (well I don’t anyway!:). Hope my experience helps you a bit :)

You guys are the most amazing bunch of people, you really know how to make someone feel so much better about something that was worrying. Thank you all so, so, SO much for your lovely comments and advice.

@Kiwieatcake, thanks for the royal icing tip, might try that next time. I guess there’s really no shortcut to this monogram, maybe the real one’s are also hand painted and that’s why they cost so much…HAHAHAHAHA!
