This is my first attempt at a first communion cake and was inspired, strangely enough, by a dress which was designed by Amanda Wakefield for the late Princess Di and embellished with seed pearls and crystals. I wanted to see how the design would translate to a cake and thought it would tie in nicely with the rosary detail on the top of the cake, although I think it would also be a stunning embeleshment for a stacked wedding cake. I’m hoping this is the first of many Communion cakes this year. The ‘seed pearls and crystals’ are simply white and silver dragees and the cake is finished with white satin ribbon. :o)
