Thomas and a Geeky Koala.

It’s finally safe to share this!

One of my best friends asked me if I could make her boyfriend’s birthday cake, and this was /exactly/ what she asked for. It was a ridiculously daunting idea, and honestly, I’d have turned it down it it were anyone but Shannon as this is the first ‘shaped’ cake I’ve ever made. Thomas is nearly exactly to-scale (I think I fell an inch too short with the cake); there were a few minor details I ran out of time to make; and I’m least happy with how his face came out.

The cake is a simple vanilla sponge, and to be forgiving to the cake, the koala is constructed of Rice Krispie marshmallow treats.

I lost count in the 20’s, but I probably spent nearly fifty hours on this cake.
