Let me tell you a story, or rather a memory, which inspired the design for my little brother’s birthday cake.
About 10 years ago, maybe longer, we had this tin of gloss paint, which was labelled ‘lilac’ but was actually bright orange. My mum kept it on top of the overhead cupboards in the kitchen, where it sat nicely and safely for years… until one morning my brother, George, decided to scale the worktops and fridge to try and get it. Clang. Boom. Oops. Shiny orange gloss paint everywhere. So what did George do? He went swimming. In the paint.
We had to call a ambulance, because he had gloss paint everywhere. In his ears, on his eyelashes, in his belly button. Everywhere. The paramedics found it absolutely hilarious, and used a(n unused) disposable vomit bowl to make a hat, and they wrote “tangoed” on it (in reference to the Tango ads which were airing at the time).

The cake itself is Chocolate orange flavoured, and was about 8 inches tall. It took about 11 hours to make, separated over 2 days after work.
More of my work can be found on Facebook, Tumblr, and DeviantART.
