Boat Cake

Boat Cake

This was a cake for a guys 50th birthday. It is a cake replica of his pride and joy – a 1923 Bridgedecker boat which he has restored. It was caramel mudcake and was bigger than it looks in the photo – the board was 1/2 a meter long! It looks relatively simple but it took about 18 hours from start to finish!!

Just wondering what you used for the railing on the boat? It looks great!

Hi Bless Her Heart Cakes – thanks so much! I just used floral wire. I think it was around a 16 gauge for the ‘posts’ and a thinner (maybe around 26 gauge) for the railing so it could be bent into shape! Hope that helps. Thanks – Kerry :)

Kerry, Thanks for the quick response! We’re getting ready to do a boat cake ourselves. Yours is a great reference. Again, the cake is gorgeous!

Ours isn’t due until March, so we’ll have a trial run before then. But I’ll definitely post the pictures of the final product!
