The lady who ordered this cake asked for an open hymn book on top of another book. She also wanted some music on it – painting is not my strong point so this posed the biggest challenge for me. I also wanted to make the cake in such a way that it could be cut right through without a cake board divider so I carved it as one piece (upside down, to begin with) from a 10” Boozy Fruit Cake. The music is hand painted with edible dusting powders mixed with gin. I loved doing this and breathed a massive sigh of relief when I had completed the painting! PS .. note to all musicians out there… the notation is not exact as I missed a bar or two but I sure as hell wasn’t going to start again haha! All decorations made with edible sugarpaste.
