80th Birthday cake

80th Birthday cake

This is one of those cakes that doesn’t mean much to people looking at it, but you know that it will mean a lot to the recipient and to their family and friends who know that it represents the person. It’s the sort of cake I really love to make. I was given a lot of information about the birthday girl – her volunteer work, what she liked to do, things she enjoyed, her comforts etc etc. This cake depicts her sitting in her lounge with her blanket and hot water bottle, her laptop to hand and her knitting basket by her side. The background is a wall with a curtained window showing a view of the charity shop she volunteers in. In the window are some of her favourite things: shoes, handbags, mahjong game, teapots. And she always wears lipstick!
