This was my wedding cake! I got married in June 2012 and spent over 70 hours making the teapot, cups and saucers and flowers for the main cake and individual flowerpot cakes.
The main cake is a rainbow layers of vanilla cake with a double height fruit cake stacked on top. The teapot is hollow, made out of gum paste. I shaped a 1/2 mould using marzipan covered in cling film and then made its mirror image for the other side. The pot was then stuck together using royal icing, which I used to fill any gaps and then sanded smooth, once fully dry, before drawing flowers on using food colour pens. The teacups were moulded using real cup & saucers and then hand drawn once dry.
The venue was an hours drive from home and I had to assemble the cake on site the day before the wedding. There is a small lacy butterfly on the top cup, which is the only thing that broke and that wasn’t even travelling down, I couldn’t support it to dry and half had fallen off and broken overnight.
The individual cakes were lemon, coffee and chocolate in silicone flowerpots with sugarpaste flowers. Each cake had a seedling stick with the cake flavour written on it.
