Chocolate Flower Cake

Chocolate Flower Cake

This is just a little fella of a cake (4”), but I wanted to share this chocolate flower with you. I originally called it a rose but it really looks more like a Lotus flower. I love the way it turned out. Easy enough to do. Grab a handful of plastic spoons, give them each a touch of shortening, melt some compound chocolate, and fill each cavity with chocolate (these will be the petals). Wipe around the edges to remove excess chocolate. Let them set in the fridge then carefully slide them off the spoons. I used a wired gumpaste rose center dipped in chocolate and attached each petal around the center using melted chocolate, working my way around. I finished with a touch of gold leaf because I just can’t leave that stuff alone!
