Hunter's Birthday Cake

Confession first of all on this cake – at first they wanted to do a full-size deer head surrounded by shotgun shells for this Birthday cake – I kid you not! I reeeeaaaaly didn’t want to do a cake like that so cautiously offered them this alternative instead and thankfully, they loved the idea :) Hurrah for compromise! Vanilla buttermilk cake with vanilla buttercream filling covered in fondant with fondant details. Deer head was rice krispie treats (first time modeling!) covered in buttercream and fondant. I hand painted the details with icing colors/lemon flavoring and the ears and antlers were gum paste.
