Please could you tell me how you made the decorations attached to the side of this cake. Thank you

Hi there!

I drew out templates of the shapes I wanted and then prepared my sugarpaste. I applied a different effect to each layer, so the bottom layer was grey sugarpaste coated in silver luster dust, the middle layer I rolled out on an impression mat and coated in pearl luster dust, and the front layer I coated in edible holographic glitter.

Using the templates I cut round the shapes. I then glued each of the layers together and placed them on a folded piece of card which I had taped to the angle I wanted (using this to form the shape). I left them to dry out over night and then fixed them to the cake with royal icing.

I hope this makes sense, I always find it hard to explain processes that I do by instinct! :)

Thank you so much for your help.
It certainly makes sense & has given me more confidence to decorate my daughters wedding cake with a similar kind of design.

Good luck! I hope you all have a wonderful day! :)

One more question. Please can you tell me when the lustre dusts & glitter are added; is it whilst sugar paste is still soft or when it’s dry?
Many thanks

I added the luster dusts while the icing was still soft. For the glitter I brushed it with a thin coating of edible glue before sprinkling with *lots *of glitter!

Thank you so much. When I can get to a shop to buy all the necessary items/ ingredients ( I live in the sticks & a long way from a large town) I will get decorating.
