My piece represents the metamorphosis of goddess Mut, from bronze statue to a real
woman in an attempt to portray her in a more human light. In the Egyptian mythology
Mut was a primal deity connected to the waters from which the world was born. She’s the
queen of the goddesses and lady of heaven.The word Mut means “mother” and Mut was
the great mother goddess of Egypt, even outranking Isis. She was said to be the consort of
Amun, and their son was the moon-god Khonsu.
Myths circulated that she had no parents
and came from nothing, this led people to believe she couldn’t have children, and chose to
adopt instead.
She was often depicted as a woman who wore a double crown, and a long red dress.The
hieroglyph for Mut’s name, and for mother itself, was that of a vulture, which the Egyptians
believed were very maternal creatures.
My creation is entirely sculpted in modelling
chocolate on a self made metal structure and added some foam for the bigger parts. I also used some modelling paste for the small
details.
I’m so grateful for being able to take part in this collaboration and I thank Ghada for giving
me this opportunity and my amazing husband for sustaining me, pushing me to finish it
and taking the cool photos ;­)
