The Blue Dahlia Birthday Cake

The Blue Dahlia Birthday Cake. Made this cake for one of my best friends Tanya :) This was my first time using a stencil, and now I think I’m addicted!! I’m really pleased with the way it turned out.

This was an alternating Chocolate and Marble cake, with creamy chocolate frosting. The Blue Dahlia was made from gumpaste.

Did you use royal icing for the stencil? This is beautiful! Good job!

Esther Williams ...

Hi Happy Cakes, thank you! Yes I used royal icing to spread this over the stencil. Works like a charm!

This is gorgeous. I’ve never tried stenciling but it’s on my “to try” list. Love the flower

I know. I was pacing up and down for 10 minutes before actually starting on the stencil because it was my first time also. But once you start the rest is a breeze. Just make sure that stencil is steady so that you can get clean sharp lines. And once you put that royal icing down, it acts like a paste and shouldn’t move your stencil around. Go for it! You’ll do great!
