This was my Entry for Wedding Cakes at Cake International Spring Show 2017 in Birmingham for which I got a Silver Award.

I wanted it to be a Modern take on Wedding Cakes but still retaining some classical features, hence I went for an all White Look. The Geometric designed Bottom tier with Squares opening at random,is slightly elevated and the legs , or brackets how I like to call them, are handmade with pastillage. The Top tier is all Hand piped RI sugar flower as bas relief and the Middle Tier is a white bare section from which sugar sage leaves, long leaves and Ivy leaves fall into, which i think lends a very current look to the mostly white Cake , apart from gold details.

For those of you who always wonder what feedbacks are, sometimes they aren’t helpful I have heard but in my case, I knew where the weak points were, I went in not expecting anything more than maybe a Merit and I knew, because I ran out of time that my leaves were not exactly great and that they would have an issue with the completely bare mid tier. Lo and Behold, they love the work on the bottom tier and obviously all the RI flower work on the top tier [albeit a bit irregular] but they couldn’t understand why I left the mid tier completely bare and the Ivy leaves were a let down. I can leave with the Ivy critique but I thought the overall design didn’t need anything added to the mid tier.
