Nephele

Nephele

An earthy, nature inspired spin to Magia 2000’s “Nephele B” from the Affinity Line 2013.
This cake was definitely an experimental one with lots of elements that were far out my comfort zone, piecing together bits of inspiration from traditional Chinese ink paintings, jagged rocks, glass shards, marble and adding in the classic glamour of Magia 2000’s “Nephele B”. Lots of different elements that created a cake that’s sharp, edgy, glamourous yet flowy and feminine at the same time.
There were lots of experimental materials used in this cake as well. The glass sail topper was made with clear caramel that was hand shaped before it cooled completely. The Chinese ink painting flowers (Magnolia and peony) and foliage were all made freehand with gumpaste. The black jagged rocks were made out of crystalized caramel for a more matte textured finish and the sequins and pearls were all hand piped and painted over with metallic silver edible paint. And lastly, the cake was covered with a layer of marbled marshmallow fondant.
