My project is inspired by the dress worn by Queen Victoria of England when she married her Prince Albert. The dress was white to represent patriotism, and is thought to have begun the white wedding trend. The original heavy silk satin dress had an over skirt of handmade Honiton lace, which also trimmed the sleeves and made up her veil. Her veil fell from a wreath of orange blossoms (symbolizing purity) and myrtle (symbolizing love and domestic happiness). The neck line had tiny cultured pearls painstakingly sewn into the trench.
