The main (perhaps only?) perk of being a member of my family is getting free cake for your birthday! It was my brothers birthday yesterday, and, like me, he is a huge Harry Potter fan, so I decided to do something Potter themed. I was absentmindedly flicking through the Enchanting Magical Cakes book by the awesome Debbie Brown Cakes last week and saw a cool stack of books cake with a white owl on top, so decided to use that as my inspiration. I decorated the books as some mentioned in the stories, (The Tale of Beedle The Bard, Hogwarts A History, Quidditch Through The Ages, Advanced Potion Making and A History of Magic). I was going to follow Debbie’s tutorial for her white owl, but after looking at pictures of Hedwig, decided to ‘wing’ it and try to make it resemble him. The cake is chocolate sponge with Terry’s chocolate orange ganache, which I know he loves…if he ever gets around to cutting the cake!
