The story behind this cake: Sonya and Adrian got married 3 years ago, we made their cake which was inspired by their life and work in Africa (see picture of their wedding cake). As Adrian’s 40th birthday was coming up, Sonya got in touch and we discussed his birthday cake. It turns out his favourite animal is the African guinea Fowl! We really wanted to make a standing bird so this is what we came up with!
Making this cake was a family affair: my husband made the frame, I baked and carved the cake and my daughter painted it. The cake is carved out of Madeira cake and rice Krispies. Adrian was flabbergasted and loved his cake! I wonder if he ever cut it…
